Princess Tam-Tam

Princesse Tam-Tam 5

Princess Tam-Tam is especially interesting in the way that it questions the validity of racial anonymity. Josephine Baker’s character in the film, Alwina, is the exact opposite of anonymous, for she is brought to Paris and looked at differently by others because of her exotic nature. The film expands on the tension between internal and external anonymity, also bringing to light the idea of racial anonymity. Even though Alwina is very well known because of her race, her internal self remains anonymous and unknown for much of the film.
